What is Electrical Discharge Machining?

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is the process of using rapidly-released electrical discharge, or sparks, to cut small holes or intricate shapes into the workpiece. This process is also known as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking, wire burning or wire erosion. EDM is the chosen cutting technique used when the metal material is too hard for conventional twist-drill machining.
