Titanium Hot Forming

Forming metal with a hot press is one of the oldest manufacturing processes. Advantages include the ability to form complex shapes, the avoidance of spring back, the ability to maintain the thickness of the material and the resistance to cracking.

For aerospace, titanium is a preferred sheet metal for hot forming because it is lightweight, while still being strong and resistant to corrosion.

Cold Forming

Cold forming keeps the metal at near-room temperatures while it’s formed. The advantages of cold forming sheet metal include producing complex parts and shapes, increasing the tensile strength of the material, and ability to increase volume production.

Since cold forming has fewer steps than hot forming, it is a faster process with a reduced price. Cold formed steel and aluminum are the more popular sheet metals, but Aerofab also works with titanium.

CNC Press Brake

Using a press brake machine is vital to creating a quality product as it’s used for mechanical metal deformation. It’s mainly used for bending sheet metal and plate material. Common sheet metals used in a CNC press brake are aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and both cold and hot rolled carbon steel.
